In April 2006, one of Elixir's very first members passed away.
Jody and Alex met Lindsay Pollack while all three were students at SUNY Purchase. Lindsay, then a first-year transfer student, auditioned for a role in Jody's senior Drama Studies project, a production of Caryl Churchill's Cloud 9 (the first show to carry the Elixir name, albeit misspelled).
Lindsay went on to appear in all four of Elixir's subsequent shows at Purchase: Mirror of Monsters (as Lady Geraldine), The Nightmares Desire Kept for Me (in the Corps d'Action and as Lee), Chambres (as Tita), and Christine (as Olivia). Three of these roles - Lady Geraldine, Lee, and Olivia - were written specifically for her. And when Jody and Alex decided to take the second half of The Nightmares, "Mixed Up Molly Eden," to Surf Reality for the company's NYC debut, Lindsay was there performing with gusto and helping to shepherd Elixir through its off off Broadway infancy.
Lindsay was an ebullient performer, a fierce presence, and a cherished collaborator and friend. Gathered here are some photos as well as a link to a video of her performing in the first poem of The Nightmares Desire Kept for Me, "A Poem for Ophelia."
She will be dearly missed.
